I was on my way to pick up John from school, and I saw what looked like a chihuahua walking in and out of the road. I quickly pulled over with the intent of getting the dog out of the road and knocking on some doors, as I figured she had accidentally gotten out of someones house. Well as I got closer to her I saw purple all over her neck and head and then I saw her ears. Then I saw her ribs and hip bones-they were clearly way too visible. Someone had cut off her ears and put the purple stuff you buy at the feed store to put on cows and horses on her nubs. And she was soo tiny.
I knew there would be no knocking on doors, she was immediately put in the car with Tiger and me. John didn't get mad at me when he saw her, and agreed that I could not have left her where I found her.
I took her to the vet as soon as we got back to G-ville. The vets were wonderful, and immediately took her to examine her. Other than the malnutrition and ears being scabbed over and purple she's actually doing quite well. She obviously had worms just from looking at her big, bloated belly. They didn't de-worm her that day, but did give her some worm meds. We have to go back in 3 weeks for them to de-worm her, get some more shots (she got parvo and distemper shots that day) , and get her ears cleaned.
I did take her back to the vet yesterday just so they could look at her ears since the scabs were coming off. They were so excited to see her, and hear that she was doing great. They weighed her and she had gone from 3.7lbs. on the day we got her to 4lbs! So she's gaining weight, playing more, and learning to go potty outside!
I would like to introduce you to Tilly! John decided that we could keep, because she needed to be with a family that would love her and take care of her forever.
Couldn't leave our pretty Tiger dog out!

And this one was just too cute not to include :)

O my! She is a cute thing! She's so tiny Miss Tiger could swallow her in one gulp!
ReplyDeleteShe is definitely a keeper!
Come visit us, Tiger. We want to play with Tilly, too! Love, Ellie and Crosby
