Friday night at dinner I was able to watch one of my dear friends niece hold my baby. Now I might have thought he was going to get seasick from her turning him around every 5 seconds, but it was so sweet! She was having a ball. She talked to him, tried to comfort him when he got fussy, and I got to enjoy catching up with some friends I haven't seen in a while.
My own nieces are the same way. They all want to take care of the baby when they are together. If he cries they do their best to get him to stop. They have little conversations with him, and tell him how much they love him. My 2 year old niece has to be the cutest thing ever with W. Lou "needs" to hold baby W, and baby W always "needs" a blanket (if I don't provide one, she'll go drag one in from somewhere). If he starts crying, she starts looking for his paci and insists that it will solve all problems. If I mention that he's hungry, she starts pulling my shirt up telling me to feed him. I really think she could take care of him in a pinch!
While it's cute and fun to watch I think it says a lot about their own mothers. Their mothers love and nurture them, and in the process teach them how to be a mother. Mad props to you ladies, you are doing a fabulous job raising your children-keep up the good work! Now lets just hope they wait a good 20-25 years to become a momma!!
